Ex-Love Islander Shaughna Phillips has just revealed some BTS details about what really happens before filming the oh-so-dramatic recoupling scenes. And after the recent jaw-dropping Danica-Luca-Gemma moment, it looks like there's more to this part of the show than meets the eye.

The 26-year-old, who was a contestant in the winter series in 2020, recently appeared on the Should I Delete That podcast. Speaking about the recouplings, she revealed that the islanders have to spend "hours" filming around the firepit and that their speeches have to be recorded in three separate parts for the cameras.

"Hours. Hours," Shaughna said. "You don't normally have to re-do… if it's something very dramatic, then obviously they can't really redo that."

She continued: "But when you're doing, like, the 'I would like to couple up with this person because…' you do that in three sections. So you say that, and then you have a big pause, then you say the next bit, pause."

Shaughna then detailed how the contestants will spend time with producers going over the rehearsed scenes the night before. "So like during dinner time you kind of talk through it," she explained. "It's really produced. They kind of ask you to go for chats and certain things," to which she added: "It's a TV show, so I get it."

And while there have been *plenty* of dramatic recoupling moments over the years, it's no surprise that these scenes require countless hours of prep and filming.

Love Island is on tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
