There are a few shows over the years that instantly got us hooked and never let us go. Bridgerton, obviously, is one of those shows. As is, Stranger Things, so imagine fan's surprise when Nicola Coughlan revealed recently that she almost played this iconic ST role, but lost out at the last minute.

Sure, it's pretty hard to imagine Penelope Featherington cropping up in Hawkins, fighting demogorgons and sharing Eggos with Eleven, but that's almost exactly what nearly happened (give or take...).

During a recent interview the Bridgerton star revealed that she was actually in the audition process for a role in Stranger Things season 3, but eventually lost out to the person who would go on to land the role.

Speaking to Buzzfeed the Derry Girls star explained, "I auditioned to play Robin, Maya Hawke got it," Coughlan said. "She was far better than I ever would have been."

She added how she learned a big lesson from this, that she now really values.

"It's a good lesson to actors: Watch the stuff you didn't get because you'll totally understand how it's not personal."

She continued, "You're just right for some things, and you're not right for other things."

Okay, so our lesson from today is that Nicola is far wiser than both her Bridgerton and Derry Girls characters.
