It might only be the first day of February, but that doesn't mean we're not already thinking about about our fave summer series, Love Island. Yep, while we still have quite a few months to go before the hit ITV dating series returns to screens, that hasn't stopped us obsessing over what the 2022 series will be like.

Sadly though, it sounds like this year's Love Island will look a whole lot different, with a TV insider revealing to The Sun that the show's producers have "axed" the villa we all know and love. RIP.

"ITV bosses think this is the right moment to refresh this element of the show, just as they did in series three back in 2017," the source said. "Love Island moved from a location in Santanyi in southern Majorca, which was its home for series one and two, to the current villa in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, in the north-east."

The insider continued: "Now they’re considering a range of options, but want to stay on the island which has provided the perfect sunny backdrop for the show."

OG Love Island viewers will remember the first villa in question, which was replaced in series three, also marking the arrival of Casa Amor. That's not to say Casa Amor won't be an element of the upcoming series, with the TV source suggesting that a new villa means new possibilities for the show.

"Bosses are conscious of the fact that this is also an opportunity to consider all the new elements they could introduce to enhance the show even further," the insider added. "For fans of Love Island this is huge news and they’ll be eager to see what the new villa looks like and how much it could change the show."

Just when we thought we couldn't get any more excited...
