Selena Gomez opened up about "signing her life away" to Disney as a child when she starred in The Wizards of Waverley Place in her early teens, saying she "didn't know what [she] was doing."
The Bad Liar singer is currently starring in series Only Murders in the Building, and while promoting the thriller-comedy at an event for the Television Critics Association she spoke out about starring in the Disney Channel show at such a young age.
"I signed my life away to Disney at a very young age and I didn't know what I was doing," she explained. "What I'd say is the level of sophistication of the material is the first reason why I wanted to do [Only Murders in the Building]."
She also spoke about how she acted like a child while she was starring on the Wizards of Waverley Place, saying that she was "just running around on set," adding that this is her first time back on a set since then.
"It’s really nice to be back on TV and it’s nice to be cast as my actual age, which never happens," she explained, adding, "I don’t know if I’m a good actor. I just do my job."
Only Murders in the Building follows three strangers (Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin) who have two things in common: their apartment building, followed by their shared obsession with true-crime. The official synopsis states, "When a grisly death occurs inside their exclusive Upper West Side apartment building, the trio suspects murder and employs their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth."
