Love Island viewers have sent more than 1,500 complaints to Ofcom in the days since bombshell Danny Bibby entered the villa, more than double the number of complaints from the previous week.

Evening Standard report Love Island fans logged 1,507 complaints with the regulator in the two days after 25-year-old Danny entered the villa as one of the show's bombshell contestants. Calls for the new Islander to be removed from the show came before he had even entered the villa, after fans discovered an Instagram comment from 2019 in which he used a racial slur.

The day after the clothing brand owner first went into the villa 1,081 complaints were made to Ofcom about the show, with a further 426 made in the days following his entry onto the show.

ITV released a statement on Bibby's behalf, in which he apologised for using the racial slur and explained that he'd like to take the time, "to apologise to anyone that may have taken offence to [his] inappropriate remark."

However calls continued for him to be removed from the show, with many fans also pointing out that the other contestants deserve the right to know about what was unfolding outside of the villa.

As policy Ofcom does not release information about a specific individual that a complaint may be about, so we cannot know for sure if these complaints do refer to Bibby.

In last night's episode (July 21) Bibby was ultimately dumped from the show following a public vote and a final decision from fellow islanders. Along with Bibby bombshell AJ Bunker was also voted off the show, the latest in a number of contestants who have been in the villa for a very brief stint.
