Love Island's Dr Alex George has announced his split from girlfriend of a year and a half Amelia Bath saying that being apart in lockdown was a strain on the relationship.

Taking to Instagram Alex told fans, "Guys just want to let you know, Amelia and I have decided to go our separate ways.

"As you know, we've been apart for most of lockdown which has been hard on us both and we both agree this is for the best.

"We will remain good friends and I have nothing but respect for Amelia. Thank you for the love and support always."

Amelia also shared an almost identical message to her Instagram stories. The split comes just days after the pair reunited after their lockdown separation, in which the couple reportedly were apart for 102 days. They began dating in December 2018 but haven't been able to spend much time together recently as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Over the weekend Alex posted on Instagram about coping with the break up, saying "The last few days have been really tough but I am so grateful for the love and support I have received, it means the world to me. Life happens. Being able to pick yourself up and move forward with positivity and an appreciation for life is what matters 💙".

We hope both Alex and Amelia are doing okay.
