- Greg O'Shea and Amber Gill won the 2019 series of Love Island.
- The pair ended up splitting just a month after leaving the villa.
It took just five short weeks for Love Island 2019 winners Greg O'Shea and Amber Gill to sadly split up. If you cast your minds back to September 2019, you'll also remember Amber claimed Greg savagely did the dumping by text (something he denied).
Fast forward nine months and Greg has opened up about the backlash he faced over the dumping drama, and also revealed why they split - and it's a pretty simple reason.
"That's the thing - we needed to get to know each other more," he told the Goss.ie reporter who pointed out the pair didn't have a lot of time to get to know each other in the villa.
"She's class and she's got everything going for her," he went on. "But the issue was, when I came home I stuck myself into training. I could have tried harder but that would have made her unhappy. I couldn't give her what she wants and needs so I just had to say I can't keep doing this. It's not fair on you."
While speaking about the backlash he faced after they split, Greg said 400,000 people unfollowed him in a matter of weeks.
"People kind of got the wrong story, they just saw ‘Greg breaks up with Amber of text’. There was so much more to it."
But despite all the drama at the time, the rugby player said the pair have spoken since and "there are no hard feelings".
"Me and Amber have spoken privately, I don't think anyone really knows this. We've spoken privately since and we're both like yeah, no hard feelings, we probably could have dealt with the situation better," he said. "We get on and there's no hard feelings, that's all that matters really."
We love to hear it.
