- Selena Gomez opened the American Music Awards on Sunday [24 November], with a performance that was criticised on Twitter for being "off key".
- A new report claims the singer suffered a panic attack minutes before heading on stage, so it's hardly surprising she wasn't able to deliver her best - and kudos to the singer for even getting up there.
The AMAs 2019 was definitely one to remember. As well as being jam packed full of awkward moments and brilliant outfits, it also saw performances from Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes, Billie Eilish and Selena Gomez.
The latter opened the show with her new single 'Lose You To Love Me', and sadly the reaction on Twitter was less than complimentary.
But as well as Selena's fans being on hand to back her up, pointing out it was the singer's first performance in two years, a source at E! News also spoke out after the ceremony. They explained that Sel was very anxious about the performance and was desperate for it to be perfect, which in turn caused a panic attack.
They commented, "Selena definitely had anxiety and a panic attack before she went out and was putting a lot of pressure on herself."
We can see why Selena might have felt overwhelmed - performing your new single in front of a room of fellow artists (and all those watching on TV) when you haven't been on stage for two years is hardly casual.
Thankfully, Selena seems to be happy with how everything went. "Feels good to be back," she wrote to her 162million Instagram followers after the AMAs. "Thank you to my entire team and to my fans that stand by me. All of this is for you and because of you. excited for this chapter #sg2 @amas 💚"
