Lily Allen has been making headlines left, right, and centre this week following the release of her impromptu West End Girl album. In the album, Lily sings about an open relationship and the heartbreak that came along with it, and fans and critics alike have theorised that the album is a diss to her ex-husband, David Harbour.
As well as the many, many stories that have come from the album (see: all the clues that the Stranger Things star was ‘hostile’ to his wife and who he allegedly cheated on her with), other stories have been dug up from years gone by. This is where Zoë Kravitz comes in. Back in 2018, the actor accused Lily of “attacking” her, and a clip of her discussing the apparent interaction is now going viral.
“I’m sorry, but no matter how much people praise Lily Allen’s album, I just can’t press play. The fact that she sexually assaulted Zoë Kravitz and it’s being brushed over like nothing happened?? Just vile,” someone wrote on X alongside a clip of Zoë discussing the alleged “attack”.
So, what really happened? Scroll on for a timeline of Lily Allen and Zoë Kravitz’s history, and details on that alleged attack…
Did Lily Allen and Zoë Kravitz kiss?
During a 2018 appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live!, Zoë was asked by a viewer if Lily had warned her that she'd include a story of them kissing in her memoir, My Thoughts Exactly.
In the memoir, Lily wrote about a time when Zoë and her band supported her on tour in New York. The singer went on to add that the pair became friends and even shared a kiss on a night out.
Zoë, however, rejected this account. "Who's Lily Allen?" she deadpanned after the viewer’s question was asked, adding that she didn’t think “anybody” read Lily’s book. Going on to address the kiss claim, Zoë said: "If by kissing she means 'attacking', then yes, she kissed me… She attacked me."
Since the clip has resurfaced, following the release of Lily’s new album, neither she nor Zoë have publicly commented on it. Cosmopolitan UK has also reached out for comment from both their representatives.
Lily Allen and Zoë Kravitz’s history
It’s safe to say that Lily and Zoë are not besties – but they did cross paths earlier on in their careers.
2014
Back in 2014, Lily embarked on a Sheezus album tour, which included the US. The North American leg of the Sheezus tour started in New York in May 2014, continuing on to the likes of Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Seattle, and more. Lolawolf, the band fronted by Zoë, was the opening act for Lily’s US edition of the tour.
During this time, Lily claimed in her book (more on that in a moment) that the pair went on a night out together and shared a kiss. Lily was still married to her ex, Sam Cooper, when the alleged kiss happened.
Beyond the tour, there’s not much tying Lily and Zoë together, and the pair do not appear to have had – or maintained – a friendship in the public eye.
2018
Fast forward to 2018, and Lily and Zoë’s alleged night out is put in the spotlight when Lily releases her memoir: My Thoughts Exactly.
"For my New York shows, Zoë Kravitz and her band Lolawolf supported me, so I got to know Zoë a bit. We became friends,” Lily penned in her book. "Zoë and I went out partying and ended up kissing. I heard that later that same night she'd got down with A$AP Rocky." As mentioned, Zoë denied this version of events, instead saying she was “attacked” by Lily.
With the clip gaining a lot of attention, an old Instagram photo of the pair resurfaced. It was apparently taken in 2014 – although it’s unclear who took the photo and where it was posted, as it no longer appears on either of their Instagram accounts. Another image that circulated showed Lily and Zoë in a Polaroid photo, and both have the same hairstyle as in the Instagram pic, suggesting they were taken around the same time (see both images here).
Again, there was no response from Lily to Zoë’s claim in 2018.
2025
Lily and Zoë’s apparent kiss – or, as Zoë puts it, “attack” – is making headlines once again. While Lily made no mention of Zoë on her recently released West End Girl album, critics of the album have taken it upon themselves to repost stories from her history.
Again, neither Lily nor Zoë have commented on the resurfacing of the clip.
