Just in case you somehow managed to not hear about it before now, there's a little royal wedding happening this weekend as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are getting married on Saturday.

So of course Channel 4's First Dates wanted in on the royal wedding fever, delivering an episode full of daters who were keeping surprising royal connections close to their chests.

First, there was the waiter, Sam, who revealed his middle names are William and Charles, and then there was matched couple Kit and Andrew, both of whom have spent time mingling with the royals in the past, from having cups of teas with Prince Charles to chatting to Diana, Princess of Wales.

But then there was Abbie, a 20-year-old student from Newcastle who shared her own royal link – and, not that it's a competition or anything, but Abbie's connection goes back centuries.

Abbie studies History at uni and admitted to her date William that her interest in it stemmed back to her family's links to the Tudor reign – and Henry VIII in particular.

"Part of the reason I got interested in history is apparently I'm the direct descendent of Mary Boleyn," Abbie said. "Henry VIII supposedly had a child with Mary Boleyn, despite being married to Anne. It's all a bit... saucy really."

But then again, many viewers were comparing Abbie's date William to quite another famous (if fictional) King, so maybe we'll leave that one as a tie:

Also hoping to find love tonight was 29-year-old Jodie, a Kate Middleton lookalike, and her date James – whose mum is called Diana – admitted to having a crush on the Middleton sisters.

The only trouble is Jodie failed to convince a lot of the viewers at home and her date didn't make the connection, either:

Unfortunately, unlike Meghan and Harry, many of tonight's dates failed to find their happily-ever-afters, with Abbie and William going their separate ways after William admitted to being "bitter" about an ex, and Jodie and James not getting any further than a second date.
