Olivia Attwood has described getting cosmetic surgeries and treatment at a young age as a ‘dangerous road to nowhere’.
The 32-year-old is choosing to speak candidly about her own surgery experience in a new documentary on ITVX, The Price of Perfection, and examining the impact our need for tweakments is having on our bodies – and our minds.
Speaking about her decision to get her breasts enlarged aged just 20, Attwood told The Times: “I was fixated and it was cheap and quick.
“These bloody boobs were so heavy. I was happy for a year, then I realised they didn’t look right for my frame. The weight of the implants started to stretch my skin and they got lower and lower. I started to think, ‘This isn’t what I signed up for at all.’”
She adds that she has tried significant treatments to give herself a more natural look.
“I do the non-surgical stuff to my face ― Botox, all the jazzy skincare, the Morpheus8, the lasers. I’ll try everything that’s new. I’ll do dots of filler here and there. Fillers are a journey I’ve been on,” Attwood explains. “The ‘natural’ that women are buying isn’t natural at all.”
Everyone's clicking on...
Attwood, who placed third on Love Island in 2017, also warned against the sudden boom in cosmetic surgery, which sees a significant number of women go under the knife to boost their self-esteem and chase perfection.
In 2022, more than 30,000 people underwent cosmetic surgery; 93% of them were women. The UK government now estimates that the non-surgical cosmetic tweakments industry is worth £3.6 billion a year.
“We have a massive problem in this country with aesthetics and injectables,” Attwood said. “The world we live in is very image-based and these things are promoted and sold, especially to young people, as a quick fix ― in and out, gloss over the small print.
“These things used to be something for the rich and famous. Do what you want with your hair and make-up, but surgery? It’s irreversible. Doing something to your body because it’s on trend is a dangerous road to nowhere.”
