As a 90s baby myself (Aug 1999... yep, I made the cut), I'm pleased to announce that, per your favourite celebrities, the nostalgic flipped-out bob from the iconic era is back! Don't believe me? Keira Knightley is the latest to debut the style, taking her fresh bob to the red carpet late last week.
Attending the premiere of The Woman In Cabin 10 at BAFTA Piccadilly in London [25 September] – a film in which she stars – Keira stepped out looking as gorgeous as ever. Though floor-length fashions aside, what had us flipping out (pun very much intended) was the actor's flipped-out bob, a style reminiscent of the noughties.
As Keira perfectly demonstrates, the flipped-out bob is a short and classic chin-shoulder length bob cut, styled with the ends upturned. It first became popular in the 60s alongside victory rolls, but really shot to fame in the 90s.
Throwback à la Drew Barrymore and Winona Ryder!
Fast forward to the 2020s, and this hairstyle has made its way back on trend with a number of celebrities, now including Keira, rocking the look. So, if you, too, want to style your bob with flipped-out ends (after all, it is a low-maintenance change for those who already have a short haircut), all you need is a blow dryer and a round brush. Focus on drying the ends out and up to achieve a playful, retro vibe with added volume and shape.
