Buzzing to see how Nicholas Galitzine pulled off playing He-Man in Masters of the Universe? The 80s cartoon turned live-action blockbuster is finally here and he’s quite the charming prince. Whether you’re heading out to see it with the masses or waiting to watch at home, here’s what you need to know.
The film follows Prince Adam, also known as He-Man, as he grows up on the magical planet Eternia and then flees to Earth when his kingdom is invaded by a Villain™ called Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. His journey to our world and back home is a little bit Thor, a little bit King Arthur, and honestly a little bit Princess Anastasia. As an adult, he reconnects with his childhood bestie Teela (Camilla Mendes) and gathers a group of misfits to reclaim Castle Greyskull and save the day. It’s fun! There’s a talking cat!
How can I watch this movie?
Masters of the Universe is officially in theaters as of June 5, 2026. Cinema geeks might like to know (or might already know) that you can see it in pretty much every fun blockbuster format, including Dolby, IMAX, and my not-so-guilty pleasure 4DX.
Where will it be streaming?
This is an Amazon MGM Studios film, so look for Masters of the Universe to stream on Prime Video.
When will it be streaming?
This is a little difficult to judge with Amazon MGM Studios, since they have direct-to-streaming and theatrical releases. Their “theatrical windows,” meaning the number of days the movie is in cinemas, changes depending on the film.
Project Hail Mary, one of the recent theatrical releases, opened in theaters on March 20, 2026 and is currently available to rent on PVOD but not yet streaming on Prime Video as of the Masters of the Universe opening weekend. So, if we can use that as an example, it will be longer than three months. Probably around October.
What do I do with myself until then?
Well… I would tell you to watch the Netflix series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which is also set in this universe and so so fun. But Netflix recently yeeted it from the platform. The only way to watch is to purchase a digital copy or find a blu ray. Alas! The new-ish reboot of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe as well as Masters of the Universe: Revelation, however, are still on Netflix. Justice for She-Ra!
You can also stream the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series on Prime Video for some throwback fun. It might also help to refresh your brain. While you don’t have to have seen the 80s cartoon to get the movie, there are a lot of little references sprinkled throughout. Enhance your movie-going, or streaming, experience!
