Pretty much the entire cast of The Devil Wears Prada is returning for the movie’s sequel…except for Adrian Grenier, who played Andy’s boyfriend Nate (ugh) in the original 2006 film.

It’s not shocking that Adrian wasn’t asked back as a main cast member considering Nate isn’t exactly beloved by fans, but apparently there was some talk of getting him to make a cameo, which didn’t pan out.

Director David Frankel told Entertainment Tonight, "I had an idea about sneaking him into a cameo, and, in the end, it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen.” He added that there simply “wasn’t time.”

Meanwhile, back in March, Adrian told People, “I spoke to David Frankel, the director recently. I was disappointed... But, you know, apparently, my character is a controversial character, so he might need his own spinoff.” He went on to say he gets why everyone thinks Nate is the villain, “but I have to stand [up] for my character. If Nate is actually the devil in The Devil Wears Prada, I'd like to see what his character does beyond, as a spinoff movie.”

Back in 2021, Adrian told EW that he originally didn’t understand why people weren’t fans of Nate, saying, “It hadn't occurred to me until I started to really think about it. And perhaps it was because I was as immature as Nate was at the time, and in many ways he's very selfish and self-involved. It was all about him, he wasn't extending himself to support Andy in her career.”

In conclusion: and none for Nate, bye.
