- Britney Spears and her ex-husband, Jason Alexander, were married for 55 hours in 2004.
- The “Toxic” hitmaker married Kevin Federline later that same year, but they got divorced in 2007.
- Jason came to Britney’s defense in a lengthy Instagram post aimed at Kevin, who he accused of “feeding off” her pain.
Nearly two decades after their short-lived (like, 55 hours short) marriage, Jason Alexander has come to Britney Spears’ defense in the wake of her other ex, Kevin Federline’s tell-all memoir, You Thought You Knew.
After the New York Times published an excerpt from the forthcoming book (in which Kevin alleges that Britney watched their sons sleep with a knife in her hand), Jason slammed the former dancer for profiting off Britney’s pain.
“So Kevin Federline has decided to write a book—and surprise, surprise, it leans heavy on painting Britney in a bad light,” Jason wrote in an Instagram post shared on October 14. “As someone who’s known Britney most of her life—not just as her first husband, but as a friend who’s seen what she’s gone through—I can’t stay silent.”
Jason then called Kevin out for not protecting her from her conservatorship, among other factors in her fast-paced life at the time. He went on to say that her ex-husband didn’t get to “point fingers” and reframe the narrative in his memoir when he played a role in Britney’s struggles.
“It’s easy to point fingers now, to talk about Britney’s struggles like you were just some innocent bystander watching it all happen. But that’s not what went down,” Jason continued. “You were her husband. You were supposed to be her protector. Instead, you were partying right alongside her—the drugs, the alcohol, the chaos…you were there for all of it. You weren’t trying to pull her out—you were feeding off it.”
Jason, who was married to the “Circus” singer for 55 hours before it was annulled, also pointed out how Kevin walked away from their divorce with full custody of their sons and child support.
“Let’s be honest—you became a millionaire off of her pain,” Jason added. “And now, you want to act like the mature one, like the man who held it all together? ...If you’re going to write a book, at least have the guts to tell the truth about your part in it.”
His lengthy Instagram post came as one of Britney’s reps issued a statement to E! News about the concerning allegations made in Kevin’s memoir.
“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her, and sadly, it comes after child support has ended with Kevin,” her rep shared. “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism.”
In the wake of all of this ^^^, Britney seems generally unbothered. On October 15, she shared a photo captioned, “This salad is no joke 😂😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️.”
An unbothered queen.
