Sam Asghari is getting candid about his marriage to Britney Spears after she claimed it was a “distraction” from being estranged from her sons in a social media post.
For context: This wasn’t fully a dig at their relationship. In a since-deleted Instagram post, the “Toxic” hitmaker revealed that her marriage to The Traitors star helped her cope during the three-year period her sons, Sean and Jaden, lived with their dad, Kevin Federline.
“We’re just people so fragile and human,” Britney wrote on Sunday, August 24. “The hardest years of my life were my two sons gone for those 3 years … I was cut off from calling or texting and I remember in shock my secret to survival was denial and a lot of tears.”
She continued, “Its weird me and Sam were married but it almost felt like a fake distraction to help me deal with it.”
Sam seemingly reacted to her post, as he spoke fondly of her in a statement sent to People on August 26. “Our marriage was very real to me,” he said. “It may have been short, but we were together for seven years. I was in love with her, will always have love for her, and wish her the best always.”
Sam, who met Britney on the set of her “Slumber Party” music video in 2016, recently came to his ex-wife’s defense after K-Fed announced his upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew. According to Kevin’s announcement, the book covers “fame, fatherhood and the private cost of public life—from one of pop culture’s most misunderstood figures.”
During a conversation with TMZ on August 17, Sam reacted to K-Fed’s announcement, “He was a professional father. So, it would be the first book that would tell you how to be a professional father.”
While their divorce was finalized in December 2024, it seems like Sam still has love for the pop icon.
