Where did all the royal family members go to university?

Upon leaving Marlborough College with A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Art, Kate Middleton undertook a gap year. During her year abroad, she studied at the British Institute in Florence and the Raleigh International programme in Chile (where Prince William coincidentally also volunteered).

In a move that would change her life forever, Kate enrolled in St Andrews University in 2001 and stayed in the now infamous St Salvator’s Hall, where she met Prince William while studying a Masters in History of Art. A keen sportswoman, Kate was also on the university hockey team. The now-Duchess of Cambridge reportedly caught Prince William’s eye one night in 2002 at a charity fashion show while wearing a sheer dress.

Upon graduating with a 2:1 (Honours), Kate began working as an Accessories Buyer for Jigsaw and worked at her parents' company, Party Piece, before marrying Prince William and becoming a full-time royal in 2011.

Growing up on the set of Married With Children (her dad was a camera operator on the show), Meghan showed a keen interest in the arts. After graduating from Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles in 1999, she enrolled in North Western University.

Double majoring in Theatre and International Relations, Meghan joined Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and showed an interest in politics, interning at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina before graduating in 2003.

After a few cameo appearances in 90210, Remember Me and Horrible Bosses, Meghan landed a role on the US drama Suits in 2011, playing paralegal Rachel Zane until 2017 when she announced her engagement to Prince Harry.

Traditionally the royal family were educated privately at home before starting their royal duties. The Queen and her sister Princess Margaret were last members of the royal family to receive private schooling. But Elizabeth II’s lack of formal schooling didn’t hinder her education; she studied lessons in Constitutional History and Law from Henry Marten, the vice provost of Eton College, and classes in Religion from the Archbishop of Canterbury. Not too shabby for home schooling.

Unlike her elder brother, Princess Anne didn’t attend university. Upon graduating from Beneden School, a private all-girls boarding school in Kent, she soon began life as working member of the royal family.

Inheriting her mother’s life long love affair with horses, Anne rode competitively throughout her childhood, even going on to compete in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games as part of the British Three-Day Event team.

The Queen’s eldest grandchild, Peter Phillips, followed in his uncles' footsteps by attending boarding school at Gordonstoun in Scotland. There, he was head boy and excelled at rugby.

Taking a year off in between study, Peter travelled to Australia where he took a keen interest in sports entertainment. When he returned, he went off to study Sports Science at Exeter University, where he played on the university rugby team.

Before she became Mrs Tindall, Zara Phillips grew up in Gloucestershire and, like her brother Peter, attended boarding school at Gordonstoun. After completing her A-Levels, Zara took a year off to travel abroad to New Zealand and Australia. When she returned, the Queen's granddaughter enrolled in Exeter University to study Physiotherapy.

Zara also inherited her mother’s love of horses, going on to compete professionally, and becoming the World Eventing Champion in 2006, as well as winning a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Prince Andrew followed in his brother Charles' footsteps, attending Gordonstoun School in Scotland. After passing his A-Levels, Andrew joined the Royal Navy, starting what would become a 22-year career with British Royal Naval Force.

Princess Beatrice has been very open about her struggles with dyslexia at school. That didn’t stop her, however, from excelling at St. George’s School in Ascot, where she went on to become Head Girl. At St. George's, Beatrice achieved A-Levels in Drama, History and Film.

Beatrice, who is ninth in line to the throne, later studied History and the History of Ideas at Goldsmiths College in London, graduating with a 2:1 in 2011. The Princess’ charitable work has mainly centred around children’s education and she now works full-time in business in London, after a short stint as a financial consultant in New York in 2018.

Princess Eugenie also attended St George’s, before transferring to Marlborough College where the Duchess of Cambridge also went to school.

Upon completing her A-Levels, the princess enrolled in Newcastle University, studying a Combined Honours degree in English Literature, History of Art and Politics. She graduated in 2012 with a 2:1 degree, and later embarked on a career in the art world.

Like his father and brothers before him, Prince Edward studied at Gordonstoun, where he excelled at sports. He event went on to gain a Gold Duke of Edinburgh award, which would later inspire his work as a filmmaker.

After completing his A Levels, the prince studied History at Jesus College in Cambridge, and later spent three years in the Royal Marines before pursing a career in the entertainment. Edward went on to produce two documentary films about the Duke of Edinburgh Award, as well as a film about royal life called Crown and Country.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex grew up in Kent, attending West Kent College before embarking on a career in public relations. Eventually, Sophie opened up her own PR firm, before marrying into the royal family.
