Now that summer’s here, the one thing we will not be doing is wearing trousers or jeans. For most of the UK, it has been hot, sticky, and borderline unbearable, and the thought of willingly stepping out wearing fabric that clings to our legs feels like pure masochism. So trust, we’ll be living in shorts all season long.

There are a variety of styles to choose from: cute crochet styles, a good mid-rise denim short, and eye-catching colourful designs. But this season, it has been hard to miss the Bermuda shorts trend that has well and truly taken over recently.

Bermuda shorts refer specifically to the style's length and tailoring. They typically hit right above the knee – about half an inch to an inch, or so – and have a more structured, fitted silhouette rather than an oversized or baggy look. Sure, there are cargo versions that lean a little more dad-style and denim iterations are available too. However, to truly nail the look, stick to tailored trouser fabrics like crisp cotton and linen that make the shorts feel so much more elevated and fashion-forward.

Styled with a blazer, a statement top, or even a button-down, they’re such a cool way to do business casual without committing to a full suit moment or feeling too formal. When Margot Robbie was photographed at Sydney airport back in February wearing an all black ensemble consisting of a flowing black long-sleeved top, tailored black Bermuda shorts, and Alaïa mesh Mary Jane ballet flats, the look was immediately saved by the entire Internet under ‘outfits to recreate when the weather allows.’ And we're pleased to confirm that time is now.

Because we've been fully obsessed with them, we've been on the hunt for the perfect pair to replicate the cool, sleek spin on Margot's look. After much scrolling, we finally found the one from Mango – and they’re only £40.

The pleat detailing gives them a more refined look, which we love, and the chic brown colourway feels so expensive and more summer-coded than basic black. Toss them on over a swimsuit with leather sandals for dinner after a beach day, or dress them up with a button-down and kitten heels for heatwave-ready workwear. Either way, they’re serving Euro-summer, and were made for wearing with an Aperol spritz in hand somewhere along the Italian coast.
