Victoria Beckham is having a Euro summer. The fashion designer is currently on board her and footballer husband David's £16 million yacht, living La Dolce Vita in Portofino, Italy. And while we do love a Beckham holiday dump (yes, we're talking about David and Victoria PDA moments), often, we're only here for one thing: to find out what VB is wearing, and take inspo for our own summer trips. Over the years, she's treated us to some iconic looks, too, from her repping LBDs on St. Tropez beaches to hiking a Formentera mountain in designer heels. Bottom line? Posh Spice lives by her own fashion rules.
But there's one, seemingly more normal staple, that Victoria never forgets to pack: her trusty denim cut-off shorts. The mum-of-four has stayed true to this style for years, often wearing them with one-shoulder swimsuits or oversized hoodies on cooler European evenings. This holiday, Victoria was spotted wearing a pair tucked into a chic white shirt, which allowed her Italian tan to pop even more. Simple, but timeless.
But let's backtrack for a sec. We know that this summer, the go-to denim short has been the knee-length Bermuda silhouette. Typically hitting right above the knee – about half an inch to an inch, or so – with a more structured, fitted silhouette rather than an oversized or baggy look, they've been dominating trends.
But, if you fancy a break from the Bermuda style – and if seeing VB in the classic denim shorts has brought back your love of the fit – we've found just the pair. The key to making denim shorts work today (as opposed to in the ‘90s) is to look for a flattering fit – a mid-rise waistband and a looser leg like an A-line cut. This £26 M&S pair ticks all these boxes, featuring a high waist and five pockets, and easily combining classic and contemporary styles.
Whether you wear with a crisp white shirt like Victoria for casual summer dinners, or slip on a vest top and an oversized shirt for beach days, they're incredibly versatile. Which also means that if you're having to deal with those pesky hand luggage allowances, you've got multiple outfits in one. Our verdict? Victoria would approve.
