It works in exactly the same way as some of the viral players: the metallic, peel-off formula sits on your lips for a few minutes before drying. Once dried, you can peel off the product off your lips and it leaves behind a natural, pigmented colour. You can apply it all over, though I like to apply it like a lip liner and then using a gloss to add some shine.
I will say, it’s not as pigmented as others I have tested (I went in with two applications to get a bold line), but for the change-for-a-fiver price tag, I don’t think you can go wrong. It also comes in many wearable shades, two of which I’ll be bringing on my next beach holiday.

What's the difference between a lip stain and a lipstick?
There are *so* many products out there, so why exactly do you need a lip stain in your life if you've already got a bunch of lipsticks floating around in your handbag?
“Lip stains and tints often have a lighter consistency than lipstick and tend to be gel or water-based,” explains Lauren Hogsden, Benefit Cosmetics National Brow Artist and Content Creator.
“The lightweight formula allows stains and tints to be easily absorbed into the lips, delivering sheer, yet buildable colour.” Lipsticks, on the other hand, are wax or oil-based, meaning they're more likely to offer a more opaque, bolder look.
What are the benefits of a lip stain?
Lipsticks are great, but they can require regular dashes to the bathroom to check that it hasn't smudged so much that you resemble The Joker. That's where lip stains come in...
“Lip stains and tints will provide a more subtle look, enhancing one's natural beauty for that 'no make-up look'. Designed to stain the lips and provide a long-lasting colour,” says Hogsden.

How long do lip stains last?
This isn’t exactly a straightforward question, as the lasting power will depend entirely on which lip stain you choose. There’s no single answer, but seeing as lip stains are designed to temporarily tint the lips rather than sit on top of them, a good-quality formula should last around four to five hours before needing a top-up.
Of course, there’s some variation here. Glossy formulas may fade a little sooner, while some peel-off or long-wear stains have the potential to last an entire day. When finding the best lip stains, they should also pass the eating and drinking test. If you’re eating particularly oily foods or have dry lips, this can cause the colour to wear off more quickly. Otherwise, a good lip stain should see you through breakfast, lunch and (possibly) dinner without disappearing completely.
