Fashion famously operates a season ahead. Designers showcase their fall/winter collections in February, when most of us are longing for sunshine, and their spring/summer collections in September, when we're about to head into the cold weather.
Personally, I'm not yet ready to wave goodbye to summer as I have a Euro trip booked in a month's time. But that doesn't mean I'm totally ignoring the new in section. Rather, I'm using it for inspiration to dictate what I wear now in late summer, bagging some extra style points in the process by introducing fall’s biggest trends into my wardrobe early.
Case in point: the scarf neck design detail. The hybrid style can be traced back to Totême, specifically the brand's wool coat with a matching fringed scarf integrated into the collar, released in 2021. Every year since, it seems more and more labels have tapped into the trend, with built-in scarves knotted around the neckline spotted adorning coats, cardigans, jumpsuits, shirts, blouses and even T-shirts.
Yep, this year is set to be no exception, with the scarf neck already appearing in the early fall collections and even transcending seasons with H&M’s Draped Scarf-Detail Top. And it’s available in a beige or a black colorway.
