Now that Heartstopper Forever, the feature-length conclusion to the series adaptation of Alice Oseman’s webcomic/graphic novels, is streaming on Netflix... what’s next but going back to the beginning? If you’re a book after type of person, jumping onto the bandwagon late in the game, or just want to revisit Nick and Charlie’s origins, here’s what you need to know to read the Heartstopper books.

The full Heartstopper saga consists of a graphic novel series that has been collected into five published volumes and two additional stories. There’s a novella set between the fourth and fifth volumes, as well as a “spin-off” novel set around the same time as the fourth volume. So it’s kind of as easy as reading the big numbers on the cover of the books, with some notes worth flagging in order to get the full story.

While I am in favor of physical media and want you to have the resources you need to add Heartstopper to your bookshelf, I also have to remind you that this started as a webcomic and you can technically read it for free on Webtunes, Tumblr, and Tapas. That’s it for the main series. But there are some supplemental materials. You can pick up a Heartstopper yearboook, Heartstopper coloring book, Heartstopper calendar/planner and...

Other stories set in the Heartstopper universe:

This is Oseman’s only full length novel set in this universe. Solitaire is all about Charlie’s sister Tori and, eventually, her relationship with Michael. It’s set during volume four, though Michael shows up a little bit earlier on the Netflix series.

This novella is also source material for the movie/finale of the Netflix adaptation. It is technically set between volume 4 and volume 5.
