Duchess Meghan returned to her academic roots in a new video shared to her Instagram Story on Sunday night.

In a series of clips that captured some of her at-home weekend activities—including watering the garden with her kids—Meghan posted a video of herself walking outside while wearing a purple Northwestern sweater. The duchess attended Northwestern University in the early 2000s, eventually earning her double major bachelor’s degree in international studies and theater in 2003.

Years before Meghan attended the school, her future mother-in-law was photographed repping Northwestern in her own stylish way. Back in 1996, Princess Diana had toured the Chicago area, visiting the Northwestern campus and even securing a university sweatshirt as a souvenir. She was later seen back in London en route to the Chelsea Harbour Club, pairing the violet sweatshirt with her signature biker shorts, chunky sneakers, and a Gucci tote. Northwestern wasn’t the only American university that Diana repped through her off-duty style. In fact, she also frequently rewore a beloved Harvard sweater as well as a few other American-themed pieces, including separate pullovers embroidered with “USA” and an illustration of the American flag.

Since marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan has occasionally nodded to her late mother-in-law—who died in a car crash in 1997—through her clothes. Often, Meghan’s tributes come in the form of her jewelry, with the duchess wearing accessories that formerly belonged to Diana, like a diamond cross necklace or butterfly stud earrings. Meghan also seems to share the same impeccable taste in bags as Diana; she has been seen carrying Dior’s Lady D-Lite bag, a style that Diana had popularized and which was renamed for her following her death.
