Former Love Islander Molly-Mae Hague has talked about her feelings of "guilt" after the Manchester home she shared with boyfriend Tommy Fury was burgled last month. Speaking in an emotional video on her YouTube account, the reality TV star turned creative director opened up to her 1.6 million subscribers for the first time since the incident, which happened on 21 October while the couple were at an event in London.
Taking to her social media, the 22-year-old said she felt her followers deserved to know the truth about what happened, and how the pair (who have been together since appearing on the hit ITV show in 2019) had been coping in the aftermath of the burglary. "It was without a doubt the worst thing that’s ever happened to me, to us, I’d probably say," Molly-Mae revealed, "It was just awful, horrendous, terrible. So we have been dealing with a lot."
The couple were targeted by thieves who reportedly stole over £800k worth of belongings, with Molly-Mae explaining that their home had been "robbed, ransacked, emptied. You name it." She said they had been left with "not a lot of stuff at all" and pointed out how the incident had made her reflect on how much of her life she shares on social media.
"I never thought if I was to be robbed, that I would feel guilty for being robbed," she said, "But I think seeing a lot of things on social media and seeing a lot of people’s opinions about why we were robbed, I started to feel like, 'God was this my fault? Do I share too much? Did I do the wrong thing?'"
Molly-Mae, who has 6.2 million followers on Instagram, has been very open with her followers since stepping into the public eye in 2019, but is now reconsidering if she'll be able to continue. "I share every aspect of my life with you. The things I buy, where I live, what I do with my boyfriend, where I’m going," she added, "It’s really, really hard to find that balance between sharing so that you guys want to keep up with my life and see what I’m doing, but also keeping my life private so that I stay safe and I think I potentially maybe lost that balance."
As for what the future holds for the couple since the incident, Molly-Mae said in a post on her Instagram Story that they would be moving "onwards and upwards."
