The phone just rang — the 80s are asking for their jeans back. And no, we aren't talking about the high-waisted jeans, or tapered silhouettes – we're talking about the triumphant return of floral denim (paired, of course, with the simultaneous revival of chunky belts and leg warmers).

Say what you want, but floral denim has a nostalgic place in our hearts. The list of 80s icons is seemingly endless, and we are more than happy to continue taking our fashion inspiration from them. This jeans trend, in particular, toes the line between earnest and ironic, but the 2026 makeover makes it a style you’re for sure going to want in your wardrobe.

And it couldn't come at a better time! In the throes of *proper* summer weather, it feels entirely appropriate to match our outfits with the surrounding scenery, which is currently flourishing. So, it's time to depart from the dreary monotony of our winter wardrobes and say hello to the thick bloom of summer.

Floral jeans on the runway

Though the thought of floral denim might conjure ideas of grandma-coded wallpaper, its 2026 iteration is slightly more sophisticated while being just as fun.

This season's version of floral denim exudes optimism, excess and softness re-entering fashion’s consciousness after years of structured silhouettes and graphic prints. Runways have been littered with embroidered floral motifs on dark wash denim for a sophisticated but seasonally aware look.

Colour and placement is everything when it comes to modern floral denim, manifesting as technicolour vines and long-stemmed flowers photosynthetically crawling from the ankle to the hip.

Our favourite high-street pair

However, just because something's trending on the runway doesn't mean you have to fork out half your monthly salary for it. One of our favourite high-street brands, Next, has a seriously understated pair that is currently 50% off...run don't walk!

Some of the more colourful floral embroidery might be a little much if you're just dipping your toe into the trend, which is why the sheer, white print on this pair is a much easier introduction to a jazzy pair of jeans.

The faded motif also makes it the ideal accompaniment to your favourite white tee, adding a little something extra to the otherwise classic combination.

Since this trend has gone mainstream, it's easy to find a pair of floral jeans in a variety of shapes, from bleach-printed patterns on classic silhouettes to more tailored denim jeans.

How to style floral denim

We throw around the term ‘statement piece’ quite often, but when it comes to floral denim, it may be patient zero of a personality piece. These unapologetically loud jeans often don’t require meticulous styling and usually do all the heavy-lifting within an outfit. Here are our tips for wilt-proof floral denim ensemble:

  • For a retro look, pair your floral jeans with a chunky brown belt and matching platform wedges.
  • If you want to lean into the boho vibe, add a flowy top with lantern sleeves, embroidery or cut-outs for a knowingly bohemian look.
  • You can also opt for a double denim moment by matching your jeans with a similar wash oversized jacket that cinches at the hips for a gorgeously balanced silhouette and a full-blown denim trellis for those florals to climb.
