Spring has sprung! The sun is shining, and our seasonal depression has been cured — until it decides to rain again, obvs...
Hence the need for a decent, hard-working jacket. If you live in the UK, the good weather never lasts for long, and our outfits need to span several seasons in one day. Enter the wardrobe staple of wide-leg jeans. They're flattering, go with almost everything, and are smart enough for the office, yet relaxed enough for weekend hangs. Call them the MVP of denim, if you will.
But how to style them transeasonally, I hear you ask? That's where the fashion-insiders come in. I've cherry-picked the best street-style looks, featuring the trending jacket styles of the season, that will make getting dressed in the morning ultra-easy. Bookmark this and thank me later.
Textured bomber
Bomber jackets are a classic for a reason. Easy to throw on over almost anything, they are a versatile item that pair perfectly with jeans. Textures — like fringing, weaving and beading — dominated the SS26 runways, from the likes of Chanel to Bottega Veneta. Combine the two and you've got the perfect spring jacket!
Quilted satin
Remember what I said about textures? This wearer has also infused pops of colour with her button-down jacket and Louis Vuitton handbag, and the lace slip dress over her wide-leg jeans (extra style points for tucking them into her boots) is just *chef's kiss*. Layers are a perfect way to combat unpredictable weather — remove if the sun is out, and re-apply if it disappears.
Oversized denim
Double denim will never not be in style. Whether you match your shades like this wearer, or opt for a clash, it's a look that consistently delivers. Smarten it up with a shirt and tie underneath, or keep it casual with a slogan tee.
Everyone's clicking on...
Colourful Harrington
The Harrington has re-entered the chat! This might be the ultimate spring jacket — lightweight, bright and majorly taps into the preppy aesthetic. Colour-blocking was another huge trend on the SS26 runways, so take notes from this wearer's lemon yellow and cobalt blue combination, finished off with cream denim and brown leather accessories.
Classic trench
Shorter or cropped jackets work well with wide-leg jeans because they show off the silhouette of the denim, but don't rule out longer styles. A trench coat is not only practical for April showers, but it adds a smart polish to relaxed jeans.
Boxy blazer
Oversized tailoring is still a huge trend, and pairing a smart blazer with more casual denim is the perfect high-low mix. Broader shoulders balance out the wide bottom half.
Cropped funnel neck
If there's one jacket style to invest in at the moment, it's the funnel neck. A perfect pairing with wide-leg denim, it gives a full on '70s boho aesthetic. Extra style points for the cord jewellery (another SS26 trend).
Statement fur
Faux-fur for spring? Yes, really. Ideal for colder evenings, furry textures add a touch of glamour to slouchy denim. We love this wearer's Charlotte Simone style, and in the words of the designer herself — the coat is the entire outfit. Just add a plain white tee underneath and you're good to go.
