25 crochet tops to buy for summer but wear forever
Because this knit is ALWAYS a vibe

The crochet top trend never really died in our opinion... But if a comeback was on the cards, we’d say spring/summer 2024 is the year. Perhaps it’s because of the amazing days of sunshine we've just had this weekend, but most likely it’s due to all those festivals and beach holidays we’ve got coming up.
Crochet as a fabric has been around since Victorian times; but the chunky knitted version we’ve come to know and love? That’s a product of the swinging ‘60s, baby. That’s when iconic ‘Granny square’ came to be, along with flared sleeves, square necklines and all things deliciously hippy we associate with the stuff.
We are firm believe in the terms ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’, so most of the beauties in our crochet top edit are pretty true to the OGs. However, we have thrown in a few alternatives to consider for your summer of fun: ‘90s-inspired butterfly tops, Y2K handkerchief-hem halters and 2024’s favourite knitted tanks and waistcoats.
We love a good vintage find or, even better, a handmade creation (crochet patterns are readily available for free on the internet). But, if you don’t have the time or skills to make your perfect summer lewk happen, you can rely on our edit to find the best crochet tops – from Free People and Ganni to Hollister, here are 25 to shop in 2024.
