ICYMI, Kim Kardashian turned 40 yesterday, and her family threw her a surprise party to celebrate the big day. Ever the business mogul, Kim didn't waste the opportunity to tie in the milestone with a special KKW Beauty collection, either.
Kim shared an unusual post to her Instagram, featuring a larger-than-life birthday cake prop. She's pictured sitting on the cake, dressed in what we can only describe as a sexy mermaid-inspired look.
On top, she wears a silvery metallic string bikini, and she covers her matching bikini bottoms with sheer, glittery high-waisted leggings. Kim accessorised with dangly earrings, white nails, and sky-high clear platform heels. Kind of what I'd imagine the pastel Peter Pan mermaids to wear, if they lived in 2020 as Instagram baddies.
So what's all this mermaid-y birthday cake hype for, anyway? The shoot was for the packaging of her new KKW Beauty Opalescent collection. The brand revealed in a caption: "The new collection celebrates @kimkardashian's 40th birthday, inspired by her birthstone, the Opal, featuring 8 brand new Semi Matte Liquid Lipsticks, the Opalescent Pressed Powder Palette, Birthstone Gloss and two new shades of our bestselling Opalescent Lip Liner." Oooh.
Kim shared some loved ones' reactions to the Opalescent collection in her Instagram stories, including messages from Kris Jenner and Makeup by Mario. Kris can be heard saying, "Happy Birthday Kim! I love the birthday collection, and I’m so happy. I’m unboxing right now, because these colours are so fabulous and I can’t wait to try the new palette. Wow."

In a recent KUWTK show interview, Kim shared her thoughts on turning 40: 'It's definitely like, "Damn. I can't really be posting, like, too sexy pics on my Instagram anymore," so I'm like purging and I wanna get it all out!'
