Season four of everyone’s favourite legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer starring LA defence attorney, Micky Haller, was released on Netflix yesterday (5 February). It follows the absolute cliffhanger we were left on at the end of season three when Mickey was arrested for the murder of his former client Sam Scales.

Many have already whizzed their way through all of the show’s 10 episodes, with one fan branding it "absolutely fire".

Thankfully, a fifth season of the ‘most realistic legal series ever’ has already been confirmed by Netflix, and so we won’t have to wait too long to find out what’s next for the Los Angeles defence attorney should he escape conviction.

As one fan said: “Netflix actually renewing a top-tier drama instead of cancelling it on a cliffhanger? Nature is healing. Mickey Haller has the streaming service in a chokehold and honestly, stay there. Season four tonight, season four already locked… We win.”

But what can we expect for season five?

What will happen in The Lincoln Lawyer season 5?

The fifth season is reported by Tudum as being inspired by the seventh book in Michael Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer series.

Titled Resurrection Walk, the book is set around two years after The Law of Innocence. It features a dual-perspective story split between Mickey and half-brother and ex-LAPD detective Harry Bosch. How season five expects to handle this, we’ll have to wait and see. Currently, streaming rights issues prevent the brothers from appearing in the same show together - Netflix owning The Lincoln Lawyer and Amazon Prime owning the rights to Bosch and Bosch: Legacy.

In the seventh book, Mickey helps a man named Jorge Ochoa get exonerated. After doing so, he ends up receiving swaths of pleas from prisoners arguing their innocence. When a woman convicted of killing her ex-husband, a former Los Angeles County Sheriff deputy, writes to Mickey asking for his help, The Lincoln Lawyer can’t ignore just how glaringly the evidence doesn’t add up.

The blurb for the book continues, as quoted by Radio Times: “The department pushed for quick closure in the killing of one of its own. But is this rushed justice - or something more sinister?

“As they face a David versus Goliath court battle, the secrets which could set an innocent woman free could also be worth killing for..."

Who from the cast will return for The Lincoln Lawyer season 5?

Alongside seeing the return of Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey, the fifth season of the iconic show has confirmed the return of Angus Sampson in the role of Dennis “Cisco” Wojciechowski, alongside Becki Newton as Lorna Crane.

Cobie Smulders, who joined the courtroom fresh faced in season four, is also anticipated to return as Allison.

Jazz Raycole is expected to come back as Izzy Letts and Neve Campbell as Maggie McPherson. We’d hope to see Elliott Gould as David “Legal” Siegel and Krista Warner back as Hayley Haller too.

When is The Lincoln Lawyer season 5 set to be released?

Given its renewal ahead of the launch of season four, it’s not a massive surprise a date hasn’t been confirmed just yet for season five’s release.

However, season five is expected to have 10 episodes like its predecessors. And if it follows suit in terms of timeline, it could be set to arrive just over a year after the release of season four - which would be summer 2027.

Creator Ted Huphrey and co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez told Tudum the team is ‘already hard at work on the next one’.

Breaking the ‘exciting’ news, the pair said: “Season 4 is the most challenging and intensely personal journey we’ve taken Mickey Haller on yet, and we’re thrilled and grateful to be able to continue the ride in Season 5.”
