After the Emmy-winning HBO show Euphoria aired its latest episode last night, fans saw Zendaya’s much-loved character Rue continuing on her downward spiral, while her mother tried stage an intervention. And *spoiler* it was about as intense as it gets.

From jumping out at the traffic lights on her way to another stint in rehab, to angrily outing Cassie and Nate’s relationship at the Howard house. It seemed that Rue was on the road to self destruction, and she wasn’t about to let anyone get in her way.

But as viewers were left speechless about what had just happened, Zendaya had already taken to Instagram to share her thoughts on the latest episode, and Rue’s character in general. The caption read: “In an interview I was asked about Rue’s journey this season, I guess this is what I hope we hold onto and are left with in the end… Episode 5 tonight.”

In the post, she told her 127 million followers that she cares for Rue “deeply”, and that she hopes that “in this season more specifically” people watching will “still see her as a person worthy of their love.” And after talking about redemption, mistakes, and how important it is to “have characters that are flawed”, fans were quick to agree and support her words.

The comments section was flooded with well wishes for Rue, and more importantly, messages from people who have loved ones struggling with addiction, or have struggled themselves.

While one user simply wrote “Well said”, another penned a sincere heartfelt message, writing: "Beautifully said…praying for Rue Rue. She is most definitely worthy of love and I hope she realises that soon🙏🏽♥️"

And in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zendaya and her on-screen mother Nika King unpacked Rue’s struggle with addiction, and noted how important it was to have an episode as raw and real as this one. King said: "It's definitely not pretty at all, but Sam [Levinson] realised that that needs to be seen. We need to see this Bennett family really go through it because that's the only way the audience and people who are also going through this in real life understand. And they're like, 'Wow, this is authentic. This is real.'"

But with recent news of the series being renewed for a third season, here’s hoping we see Rue finally happy, (and dare we say it?) living happily ever after.
