DJ Avicii has tragically died at age 28.

A spokesperson for the Swedish-born EDM star — whose real name was Tim Bergling — shared the news on Friday (April 20) that Avicii had been found dead in Oman (via The Hollywood Reporter).

A press statement from his PR team read: "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th.

"The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given."

Throughout his short but illustrious career, Avicii was nominated for a prestigious Grammy Award on two occasions and cracked the Top Three twice on DJ Mag's ranking of the world's best DJ.

Avicii broke into the mainstream on a global level with the 2011 single 'Levels', and would go on to have even greater success with 'Wake Me Up' and 'Hey Brother' in the years to come.
