It has undeniably been a stressful year for the Biebers – with Hailey Bieber being rushed to hospital in March after suffering "stroke-like symptoms", whilst husband Justin Bieber later experienced a bout of facial paralysis. Now, Hailey has opened up to Harper's Bazaar UK about the impact said health issues have had on the pair's marriage.

"I just think life is changing all the time. Day to day, week to week, year to year," she said, adding that you figure things out after you get married, not before. "I think a perfect example of that is over the last six months, both of us have gone through very serious health issues."

The 25-year-old model went on: "You have to figure out how to deal with this sh*t as it comes, you know? There’s a reason they say 'for better or for worse.' Like, that’s for real!"

Speaking about how she and Justin are just as close now as the day they got engaged, four years ago, Hailey added, "He’s still the person that I wanna be rushing back to."

"I might fly somewhere and go do a job, but I can’t wait to come back and hang out. And I feel like that’s because of the effort that’s been put in on both sides," Hailey pointed out. "At the end of the day, like, he’s my best friend, but it still does take a lot of work to make it work. And then I know eventually, when kids come in the picture, that’s going to be a whole other season of navigating how to make that work."

Earlier this year, Hailey opened up about a blood clot on her brain that resulted in "stroke-like symptoms". Taking to social media to talk to her fans about what she described as the "scariest moment" of her life, the model revealed that the illness could have been caused by a combination of starting a new contraceptive, recently having had COVID-19 and having been on a long flight.

Just a few months on, her husband Justin was forced to pull out of several concerts after being diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. "It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear, in my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis," the singer said in a post on Instagram. "As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move, so there’s full paralysis on this side of my face."

Since their bout of ill health, both Hailey and Justin have been making strides in their recovery.
