Former Love Islander turned businesswoman Molly-Mae Hague has shared an emotional message with her fans, revealing her battle with "gym anxiety" – something which she has been dealing with on-and-off.

Opening up to her 6.3 million Instagram followers, the reality TV star spoke about her struggle to stay consistent with her workout routine, admitting that she's often too hard on herself when it comes to getting down to the gym.

"Well somehow guys my gym anxiety very much came back," she wrote on her Instagram Story. "First time to the gym tonight in months... I just can't keep a consistent relationship with it!"

The 22-year-old influencer went on, "I'm either completely in love with exercising, or the thought of it sends shivers down my spine."

Explaining what kinds of workouts she usually enjoys, but has recently been finding tougher than usual, Molly-Mae said: "I'm proud that I did my 20 minute stepper tonight (I went to turn the machine off about five times but kept telling myself NO)." She continued, "I used to step everyday for 20 minutes without fail, tonight was my first time in five months."

Commenting on what motivates her to exercise, the ex Love Island star pointed out that the positives are very much linked to her mental health. "I just know I need to do this for my mental/overall health," she added.

"Hope this is a sign to anyone who needs it... small steps are still very much an achievement," Molly-Mae wrote. "Here's to not putting pressure on ourselves."

Last year, the 22-year-old told her fans she'd given her health and wellness an overhaul. "[I've] completely flipped [my] life upside down in terms of everything – exercise, food, water intake," she said on her YouTube channel. "I have been on a journey with my body, finding out what works for my body, what I need for my body to feel good."

Her usual fitness regime includes a mix of personal training sessions, horseriding and plenty of walking, too. As for her diet, she's very big on protein and sticks to a "slight calorie deficit" to reach her body goals. "I wanted to get my body back to a point where I can go on shoots... and still feel confident," she previously said in a What I Eat In A Day clip.
