The 2023 Met Gala theme, as always, links to the spring fashion exhibition at the Museum. This year that's Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, and as stars paraded in their very best this first Monday in may, they found a novel way to honour the late designer in their red carpet looks.
2023 was the year of the secret mani message, with lots of little tributes to be found on celebs nails – if you know where to look.

Madelyn Cline added a Fleur De Lis
Hailey Bieber's manicurist brought glazed donut nails back to the trend's birth place – the Met Gala – for this simple, chic and elegant mani on Madelyn Cline.
Sticking with the very-much trending simple nude bases and natural looks, the pair added a Fleur De Lis charm to honour Karl Lagerfeld, matching his tie pin.
JLo featured the signature CC logo in gems
One of Tom Bachik's three prepped options for JLo's Met Gala mani, the winning set feature a diagonal sweep of black patent leather effect over a nude base, finished with hand placed black diamonds to create the signature CC logo.
Emily Blunt featured the CC logo as a charm
Julie Kandalec created Emily Blunt's brooding black manicure, with the special little detail of the CC logo in charm form.
Miranda Kerr wore the Chanel Camellia
Kim Truong created this simple natural nude mani for Miranda Kerr but with a special touch painted on: "An ode to Karl, the iconic Chanel Camellia".
Elle Fanning added lace inspiration
Mary Soul and Elle Fanning created “lace nail gloves” inspired by Karl Lagerfeld's infamous accessory.
Rihanna featured 3D camelias
Once again using the Chanel Camellia emblem, Riri went for a clear white nude with long square tips, embellished with perfect 3D white Camellias, just like on the iconic packaging. A look created by Maria Salandra .
