Listen, I know you’re excited for sandal season—we all are—but I’m going to hold your hand when I say this: It’s still 40 degrees outside, and you need a pair of chic spring boots to get you through it.
After surviving Fool's Spring and Spring of Deception, Real Spring is finally here, and you’re probably feeling tempted to sideline your most useful shoes in favor of heeled flip-flops and ballet flats. But don’t fall for the propaganda, because boot season isn’t only during fall and winter—they’re truly the type of shoe you can rely on for spring transitional weather all the way into summertime and beyond.
Seriously, there are few outfits chicer than a tight little mini dress and a pair of ’90s-era knee-high boots. And you can’t tell me baggy jorts don’t look cool as hell styled with a pair of chunky biker boots. Ahead, shop the five types of boots your spring wardrobe has been missing.
Indie Moto Boots
I’ll admit, not all types of boots vibe with the spring aesthetic. Anything covered in fur is out, and you can effectively press pause on the Moon Boots. But motorcycle boots fall squarely into the ‘seasonless’ category. My own beloved pair—a grommet-covered sale find from Michael Kors—have gotten me through beer tents and music festivals and muddy walks through the park. Essentially, all of spring and summer’s most quintessential events. And trust me when I tell you, I looked like a baddie the whole time.
Luxe Suede Boots
Suede boots have never been cooler than they are today. I mean, we thought they ate in 2008, but looking back, the skinny jeans/Aeropostale polo combination was absolutely not it. Thankfully, the girliepops have mastered suede boot styling the second time around. Take Ugg boots, for example—Hot Girls™ are pairing them with puddle jeans for an effortlessly cool kind of look. Slimmer styles, meanwhile, look reaaaaally chic with gauzy floral dresses and boss-approved pencil skirts.
Cool-Girl Western Boots
God bless Bella Hadid, whose second career as a rodeo star has single-handedly extended the shelf life of the cowboy boot trend. Because of her, the rest of us get to continue basking in the joy of these comfy shoes—at least for another year, based on my predictions. Her impact cannot be understated. And once that first 75-degree day hits, you can start styling your own with slutty (complimentary) little sun dresses, loose-fit Bermudas, and the rare pair of jeans. Yup, these beauties really do it all.
High-Fashion Slouchy Boots
There’s just something about a perfectly slouchy boot that feels so runway-coded—especially when styled with a posh midi skirt or a pair of equally slouchy jeans. Though you could consider them a spring boot trend, slouchy boots are as timeless as they come. Shop the look in elevated fabrics, like suede, leather, or even snakeskin.
Knee-High Heeled Boots
If you only add one pair of boots to your spring outfit rotation, it should be these. A pair of easy, minimalistic heeled boots can be substituted for pretty much any other shoe style listed in this story. My advice? Invest in a neutral color—like classic black, camel, or espresso—that’ll go with literally every single thing in your closet.
