Il red carpet degli Academy Awards 2023, strategicamente posizionato sulla soglia dello storico Dolby Theater di Los Angeles, si prepara ad accogliere nuovamente la tradizionale parata di star per l'edizione numero 95 della notte degli Oscar. La serata, presentata da Jimmy Kimmel e in onda il prossimo 12 marzo, è stata anticipata come sempre dall'annuncio delle nomination ufficiali, che ha confermato parecchie previsioni della prim'ora, molte delle più plausibili lanciate dal sito Variety. Presentate dall'attrice Allison Williams da poco vista nell'horror M3GAN e da Riz Ahmed, premio Oscar 2021 per il cortometraggio The Long Goodby, l'annuncio delle nomination degli Oscar 2023 è andata in onda a reti (anzi, social) unificati sui canali dell'Academy Awards.
Poche sorprese in termini di nominati: Everything everywhere all at once, che sarà al cinema in Italia dal 2 febbraio, ha spopolato così come The Fabelmans di Steven Spielberg, nomi gettonatissimi alla vigilia dell'annuncio e titoli che non a caso sono finiti nelle categorie più blasonate. Austin Butler per il suo ruolo in Elvis, Brandan Fraser per The Whale e Paul Mescal per Aftersun si sono accaparrati una citazione nel prestigioso elenco del Miglior attore protagonista. Nel corrispettivo femminile brillano anche Ana de Armas per la sua Marilyn in Blonde, Michelle Williams e Cate Blanchett per il suo ruolo in TÁR. Menzione d'onore ad Alice Rohrwacher, nominata nella sezione Miglior Cortometraggio con il suo commovente Le pupille.
Tra i sequel ha prevalso Top Gun: Maverick, mentre ben poco spazio (come ampiamente previsto) è stato lasciato all'Avatar 2 di James Cameron. Il remake del grande classico Niente di nuovo sul fronte occidentale ha invece fatto faville, sia nelle categorie tecniche che in quelle più creative.
