Zach and Kayda are heading to The Hideaway on Love Island USA, and—in case you couldn’t tell by the entire cast celebrating / Kenzie spontaneously doing the splits—this is a huge deal. If you’re new to the Villa and slightly confused about how The Hideaway works, there are some things to acquaint yourself with ahead of tonight’s episode!
As you might have guessed, the Hideaway is a “private” room where Love Island USA couples who are really connecting can spend a night together without a bunch of other people sleeping right next to them. Meaning, they get a chance to be intimate without their castmates potentially hearing/seeing. There’s a Hideaway vote on the app (so fans could have some say on future couples heading there), but—as we saw with Zach and Kayda—the cast themselves can also nominate a couple worthy of a Hideaway moment.
As for the Hideaway itself, there’s a bed (obviously), a hot tub, and a bunch of toys to spice things up. However, things aren’t completely private since there are cameras in the room with the couple.
The rules are slightly different over on Love Island UK, which opened up The Hideaway to any two islanders NOT in an official couple to explore their relationship. Per creative director Mike Spencer, “The Hideaway is open for business for 24 hours all the time, as long as they don’t come with their partner. We told the islanders last year they could, but they kept forgetting they could come in here. We’ve seen the same things time and time again how and it’s boring.…It felt static, and the show needs to feel fresh.”
