You've binged Owning Manhattan, you've applied for your real estate license, you've stalked Ryan Serhant online and know his exact net worth, and now there's nothing left to do but wait patiently for Netflix to drop a second season of this addictive and deranged show. So...on that note, here's what we know about Owning Manhattan season 2!
First Up: Has Owning Manhattan Been Renewed?
Rudely, no. But that's probably just because it's a relatively recent addition to Netflix, and the streaming giant is likely waiting to see how it does before committing themselves to another season of production...at least that's what we're telling ourselves (it's called a coping mechanism!). But based on this braggy post from Ryan, there would be a LOT to cover in season 2—Serhant has been killing!
Ryan Hinted at a Second Season
While chatting to House Beautiful, the real estate mogul mused, “We have filmed some things that we weren't able to continue with by the time shooting ended. [They] didn't make sense for season 1. I think [they] are primed for season 2 and are intense, to say the least.”
He also said his goal is for the show to become the #1 reality series in the world (dream big, buddy!), saying, “I've done this for a long time now and I do like telling stories. I think that the life that we lead is pretty unique over here on this little island that we live on.”
Ryan also chatted a bit about the advantages of working with Netflix to the Los Angeles Times, explaining that "It scratches the itch of, 'Okay, you want to see $250-million New York City penthouses? Here you go, Episode 1. You want to see what it’s like inside the workplace drama of a young startup real estate firm, à la Vanderpump Rules? Okay, here you go. You want to have your own orchestra composing your music that gives you slightly a Succession vibe? Yeah, we could do that too. Plus we’re gonna drop drones through the canyons of this city and showcase Manhattan in a way it’s never been shown before. Yeah, we can do that because we’re Netflix. What else do you want to do?' I was like, “I’ve never seen a reality TV show that has a first-person narrator with a voice-over, can I do that?” And they were like, 'Yeah.'"
Who Would Be in Season 2, You Ask?
The better question: who wouldn't be in it. For starters, Jonathan Nørmølle can presumably be counted out considering he was fired from Serhant during season 1 for being rude to fellow employees on a podcast and messing up a major sale for Ryan.
Meanwhile, the show ended with Savannah Gowarty taking an offer from a competing real estate agency, so we might have seen the last of her on Netflix!
What About the $250 Million Penthouse?
One thing that wasn't resolved in season 1? The sale of the $250 million penthouse. Ryan was trying to sell this thing all season long, and even offered a $10 million commission to any top agent who could get it done. We also saw him ask for an extension on Serhant's exclusive handling of the listing, but never saw him get an answer.
According to Street Easy, Ryan/Serhant is still in charge of the property—which has had a pretty major price decrease. But as of just a few days ago (July 13, 2024 to be exact) it was "temporarily" taken off the market so...make of that what you will.
Anyway, we'll be updating this as more season 2 news drops. Stay tuned!
