Families can be tricky to navigate, but it must be extra tough having an estrangement play out in the public eye – and it's something Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's six children have sadly got experience in: one by one, the siblings have all spoken out against Brad and ditched 'Pitt' from their surname. Now, Vivienne Jolie, one of the twins Brad and Angelina welcomed in 2008, is the latest to file a petition to drop 'Pitt' from her surname.

According to a report by PEOPLE, Vivienne, who turned 18 just ten days ago, listed her reasoning as "personal" and a hearing is scheduled for early November. Vivienne's twin, Knox, also used the name 'Knox Jolie' for his high school graduation diploma.

Her move comes just a week on from her older siblings, Maddox, 24, and Zahara, 21, who Angelina adopted at a young age (and who Brad later also adopted in 2006) taking out a newspaper advert, a requirement of Californian law, to declare they were no longer Jolie-Pitts, but just Jolies.

The ads are meant to allow anyone with an objection to a person's intended name change to write a formal opposition ahead of the final hearing, which in this case is due to happen in September.

Here's everything the Jolie family have said about the damaged relationship.

How many children do Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have?

They share six in total, three of whom are biological and three of whom were initially adopted by Angelina alone, and then by Brad after the pair got together in 2006.

Everyone's clicking on...

Their names are Maddox Chivan (24), Pax Thien (22), Zahara Marley (21), Shiloh Nouvel (20), Vivienne Marcheline (18) and Knox Léon (18).

Which of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's children still use both surnames?

It seems like none of them use the double-barrel name in public, but it's unclear exactly how many of the six children have legally dropped Pitt.

Maddox: In 2026, 24-year-old Maddox filed a legal petition to change his name to Maddox Chivan Jolie and published the required legal notices ahead of a September court hearing. He had previously been credited simply as Maddox Jolie while working on Angelina's film Couture.

Pax: Pax, who is 22, has not publicly filed to change his legal name, but he has been estranged from Brad for years and famously shared a scathing Father's Day Instagram post calling him a "world-class a**hole".

Zahara: The 21-year-old filed to become Zahara Marley Jolie, and introduced herself using this moniker during her college sorority induction in 2023. Zahara also used the name again at her university graduation.

Shiloh: Two years ago, on her 18th birthday in 2024, Shiloh (Brad and Angelina's oldest biological child) legally petitioned to remove Pitt from her surname, with the request later approved by a judge.

Vivienne: Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill for the Broadway production The Outsiders, which she worked on with her mother, and has now filed to change her name legally.

Knox: Vivienne's twin also hasn't announced a legal name change and there's no evidence of him going by Jolie-Pitt, just Jolie or just Pitt in any credits, making him the only sibling with a question mark against his name.

Why are Brad Pitt's children estranged from him?

The family's rift dates back to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's separation in September 2016 – Angelina filed for divorce days after a private jet flight during which she alleged that Brad was physically abusive towards her and one of their children.

The FBI and Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services investigated the incident, with documents later showing Angelina described Brad "mimick[ing] the behaviour of a monster and screamed" and admitted to physically restraining him, fearing he was going to "attack". The report also notes Angelina had injuries on her neck, back and hand.

Brad denied any wrongdoing, was not charged and no criminal action was taken.

The divorce became one of Hollywood's longest-running legal battles, with years of disputes over child custody and later over Château Miraval, a winery the former couple co-owned. Although their divorce was finalised in late 2024, the family relationships appear to have remained fractured.

What have Brad Pitt's children said about him?

The clearest indication of the children's feelings towards Brad came in 2020, when Pax shared a Father's Day post on Instagram in which he called Pitt a "world-class a**hole" and accused him of making his younger siblings "tremble in fear".

Pax added: "You have made the lives of those closest to me a constant hell. You may tell yourself and the world whatever you want, but the truth will come to light someday."

The post resurfaced publicly in 2023 and fuelled speculation that the estrangement extended across all six children. Neither Brad nor his representatives publicly responded directly to the post.

While she has not commenting directly, Shiloh's lawyer said her decision to change her name came after "painful events".
