The best built-in bra tops are, quite possibly, one of fashion’s smartest inventions. Think about it: you’ve found the perfect vest (which, may I add, is no easy feat in itself). The colour is pretty, the fit is just right – but then your shoddy bra strap from 2022 peeps out and ruins everything.

We’ve all been there, which is why I’m firmly backing the built-in bra top. It combines the support and lift of a bra and the style and comfort of a vest or t-shirt – all while saving you from rummaging around your underwear drawer trying to find a bra that works.

Because the real allure is that, while some bras bunch, dig and bulk in all the wrong places, built-in bras are designed to look smooth and seamless. Most styles also come with removable pads, so if you want to go bra-less or take them out for washing, you can.

Depending on the style, some built-in bra tank tops have adjustable spaghetti straps, meaning they work in a similar way to a traditional bra. The padding is already fitted into the top, while the straps allow you to lift and tighten for extra support. This way, you’ll feel comfortable without any digging or bulging. In fact, this clever top just might be putting bras out of business.

When it comes to shopping, the high street is flooded with options. Uniqlo, M&S and Next are all trusted sources for built-in bra tops, with prices starting from only £12.50. Truth be told, it may not be the most exciting purchase you’ll ever make, but it could be one of the smartest. Whether you’re on a walk, listening to the latest podcast or working from home, wearing a built-in bra will always be a good idea.
