We've reached that point in the season when we're starting to get a little tired of wearing yet another summer dress. Yep, the past few weeks have seen us don a seemingly endless rotation of different designs, from smocked styles to classic cotton creations, plain numbers alongside printed pieces ranging from stripes to postcard prints. But when the weather is this hot, what else is there to wear?
How about a linen midi skirt? Linen is the go-to fabric for warm-weather dressing, with wide-leg trousers, loose and flowy dresses, and shirt and shorts co-ords all popular choices for looking and feeling cool. However, a linen midi skirt in comparison feels like something of an unsung wardrobe hero.
Possessing the same lightweight breathability and simple cut as a shift dress a linen midi is typically cut in a straight, slip-like silhouette and devoid of embellishment or embroidery. Though it may appear somewhat basic at first glance, its minimal vibe is ultimately the key to its sartorial success. The lack of decoration allows the natural fibres to take centre stage, and if you opt for a neutral colourway – think chocolate brown, inky black or pristine shades of white – the look is guaranteed to ooze quiet luxury.
Especially when you style it with a ribbed tank top or a cap sleeve T-shirt. A boxy fit or oversized tee would work if you didn’t want something close-fitting, just ensure you match the simplicity of the skirt in your top of choice. For something a little more formal, a button down shirt in coordinating linen more than delivers. Flip-flops or a kitten heel sandal are all you need on your feet to finish the look for a seriously chic outfit formula centered around the linen mid skirt.
