Trends come and go, and inevitably find their way back into our wardrobes often sooner than we’d expect. And if there’s one silhouette that's proved its staying power, it’s the corset dress.

Corsetry-influenced silhouettes have never really fallen out of favour. They first became a popular choice in the early sixteenth century (granted, those styles were far more restrictive than the corset dresses we know and love today – thank goodness) and have been reinventing themselves since. They constantly ebb and flow through the fashion scene, and with every era comes a fresh take, whether that’s softer tailoring, lighter fabrics or a more relaxed fit.

Today, the corset dress has evolved into something entirely wearable for everyday life. Gone are the days of painfully-tight silhouettes (though of course, they’re still available if that’s your thing). Now they’re more about softly sculpting while remaining comfortable. And ever since Daisy Edgar-Jones stepped out in that figure-hugging white Mango dress a few months back (RIP to the now sold-out style – though you can find something similar here), the corset dress is on route to becoming the summer silhouette of 2026.

A modern day corset dress has all the credentials to create that flattering silhouette without feeling restrictive. You can simply wiggle into the dress (many have elasticated waists or a simple zip up the side) and it’ll softly smooth around the torso, gently cinching you in.

The fabrics are also far more comfortable than the corset dresses of old: think breathable cottons and linens that are perfect for warmer weather. And they’re often finished with an A-line or flowing skirt that skims the body rather than clings to it.

In terms of ways to wear, your options are endless. Corset dresses don’t need much to style, as the defined waistline, fitted bodice and flowing skirt does all the talking. If anything, team with a delicate necklace – as most are cut with a square neckline – and pair with wedge sandals or ballerina pumps. Or if the vibe is more off-duty, throw on some chunky sandals or trainers for a modern approach.

So, where do you find these fabulous dresses? Luckily, we aren’t short of options. Our fave high-street retailers (hi, M&S) have many styles on offer. Zara’s mini number is the perfect day dress while Mare Mare’s Midi Dress is the outfit for desk to drinks.
