Despite the valiant efforts of Senator Wendy Davis, abortion legislature in Texas continues to head in a 1984-ish direction: After a preliminary vote last night, the House today officially voted through yet more restrictions to ban abortions after 20 weeks and require all abortions to be done at surgical centers by providers who have admitting privileges at a local hospital.

Now the restrictive legislation is bound for the Senate. Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards points out: "It seems like every time women looked up from doing their laundry of helping children with their homework, the Texas Legislature is right there taking aim at them again." Yeah, thanks, Gov. Rick Perry, for looking out for women. We're onto you — especially Texan and soon-to-be-New Yorker Sarah Slamen, who verbally kicked the GOP's ass all over the House floor at yesterday's hearing.

In response, Planned Parenthood has announced a statewide bus tour entitled Stand With Texas Women, with Wendy Davis as their leader.

Right up to the bill's passage, protestors rallied outside the Texas Capitol (photos courtesy of Leah Randall):
