Sadly, Beyoncé Didn’t Go to the 2023 VMAs—Here’s Why

This is definitely not breaking news, but Beyoncé did not seem to attend the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards...so let’s talk about it. You may be thinking to yourself, But wasn’t she nominated for some awards? And the answer to that question is yes! So then why the heck didn’t she attend??

Because Beyoncé is busy touring, that’s why. Queen Bey is currently on her Renaissance Tour, and while she didn’t have a show date on VMAs Tuesday, it is one of her only days off to rest. Her tour kicked off on May 10 and ends on October 1 with a total of 56 shows. She is booked and busy (and probably tired!!).

The last time Beyoncé went to the VMAs was in 2016 (and she absolutely slayed, taking home eight wins in one night).

While I’m sure every single member of the Bey Hive would foam at the mouth to see her show up to one of these events, I wouldn’t get your hopes up right now. It is very rare for Beyoncé to pull up to any big Hollywood functions, although she’s obviously invited to them all. Even having earned VMA nominations in 2018, 2020, and 2021, she still didn’t grace the show with an appearance.

Who knows, maybe one of these years we’ll get lucky? Just not this year.
