Netflix’s chilling new true-crime documentary Maternal Instinct details the horrific crimes of Taylor Parker, a wedding photographer, which led to the murder of pregnant Texas mother, Reagan Hancock, and her unborn child.
While Parker is now on death row awaiting execution (something she is trying to appeal), the documentary also explores the devastating impact her elaborate web of lies had on those closest to her – including her then-boyfriend, Wade Griffin, and his family.
Here's everything to know about Wade Griffin, his relationship with Taylor Parker, and where he is now.
Who is Wade Griffin?
Wade Griffin was Taylor Parker’s boyfriend when she carried out the murder of 21-year-old Reagan Hancock in October 2020.
The pair met during the summer of 2019 at a rodeo after Parker approached Griffin and asked whether he was single. Recalling their first meeting in Maternal Instinct, Griffin says Parker was “a pretty girl, smiling from ear to ear”.
According to Griffin and his family, Parker quickly immersed herself in his country lifestyle. She enjoyed farming, animals, tractors and cooking large family meals, and soon became popular among his friends and relatives – to such an extent that some encouraged Wade to propose.

By October 2019, Parker had moved into Griffin’s home along with her two children from prior relationships.
However, their union was built on a series of lies.
Parker claimed her family possessed significant wealth thanks to oil money and repeatedly told Griffin she was due to inherit millions of dollars. She allegedly said family disputes were preventing her from immediately accessing the funds, but promised that an $8 million inheritance was on its way.
As a result, the couple began making lavish plans. Parker talked about buying Griffin's dream property – a 500-acre ranch in Pecan Point, Oklahoma – outright for $4 million. She also purchased expensive vehicles, including one for Griffin’s mother, Connie.
But when the promised inheritance never arrived and one of the vehicles was repossessed, Griffin’s family began to question Parker's stories.
Why did Taylor Parker fake a pregnancy?
As tensions grew in the relationship between Parker and Griffin, in a seeming effort to keep them together Parker announced she was pregnant.
The couple held a gender reveal party, discussed baby names (with Griffin saying he wanted to call their future daughter Clancy) and even participated in a maternity photoshoot featuring horses and pink smoke bombs.
Griffin later revealed that Parker frequently avoided intimacy during the supposed pregnancy and would often disappear into the bathroom for long periods.
What he didn't know was that Parker had previously undergone a hysterectomy, making pregnancy impossible. Investigators later determined she had used a silicone baby bump to maintain the deception.
Friends who attempted to verify Parker's claims of pregnancy became suspicious, but Griffin felt Parker couldn't make up such an elaborate lie and stuck by her.
One acquaintance contacted the medical clinic Parker said she had attended and was reportedly advised to "go with your gut" by a member of staff when asking questions about the pregnancy.
Sadly, given she could not have a child of her own, prosecutors said Parker became fixated on Reagan Hancock, a young woman she knew through her wedding photography business who was genuinely expecting a baby.
The documentary reveals that when Griffin's family openly questioned whether Parker was really pregnant, Parker allegedly responded to Griffin: "I'll show them, I'm gonna bring a kid home."
On 9 October 2020, 17 days after her claimed due date, Parker set a plan in motion.
She allegedly sent Griffin a message from a fake phone number pretending to be a potential customer interested in purchasing hogs. The message encouraged him to drive several hours away for a meeting that never existed.
While Griffin was out of town, Parker travelled to Hancock's home and attacked her while Hancock's three-year-old daughter was present.
Evidence presented during trial showed Parker stabbed Hancock 15 times before attempting to perform a crude caesarean section in order to steal her unborn daughter.
Reagan's mother, Jessica Brooks, later discovered her daughter's body.
When did Wade Griffin find out what Taylor Parker had done?
Parker fled with the baby but was stopped by police shortly afterwards. Officers transported both Parker and the infant to hospital.
Medical staff quickly became suspicious when Parker resisted examinations that would normally be required after childbirth. Doctors eventually confirmed she had not recently given birth.
When Griffin arrived at the hospital, authorities informed him of what had happened.
Reflecting on that moment in Maternal Instinct, Griffin recalls telling investigators: "Well I can honestly say my family was right. They've been calling it the whole time, and I took up for Taylor."
The baby tragically did not survive.
What happened to Taylor Parker?
In 2022, a jury found Parker guilty of capital murder. Prosecutors presented evidence showing she had spent years deceiving people around her. Witnesses testified that she fabricated illnesses, including cancer, a stroke and a brain tumour, and routinely impersonated other people using multiple phones and voice-altering technology.
She was sentenced to death and remains on death row in Texas while pursuing appeals against her conviction and sentence.
Parker is currently believed to be the youngest woman on Texas death row.
Where is Wade Griffin now?
Since the trial, Wade Griffin has largely stayed out of the public eye, besides the Netflix documentary.
His Instagram account is private, although his biography reads: "Eventually all pieces fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moment and know that everything happens for a reason."
In Maternal Instinct, Griffin speaks candidly about the trauma of discovering that nearly every aspect of his relationship with Parker had been fabricated.
"I never, ever wanted anything like that to happen," he says. "It was unimaginable what she did."
There is no indication that Griffin had any involvement in Parker's crimes, and investigators treated him as someone who had also been deceived by her extensive campaign of lies.
