A new Channel 4 Dispatches documentary has examined how convicted criminals from the UK have managed to evade prison by leaving the country before sentencing and remaining overseas – and one of the most striking cases featured in Hunting Britain's Fugitives is Daryll Hall, a man sentenced to 15 years in prison after absconding before trial.

Quite incredibly, it seems Hall (a former footballer) now appears to post openly on social media under his own name.

The programme explores how Hall left Britain despite facing serious criminal allegations and later gave an interview about his decision not to return. Here's what we know about him and where Daryl Hall is now...

Who is Daryll Hall?

Daryll Hall was identified by the National Crime Agency as a key figure linked to a major organised crime group involved in drug trafficking and firearms offences across northern England.

In January 2025, the NCA announced that four members of the group had been jailed following a long-running investigation linked to the UK's response to the EncroChat hack. The agency said the network had "peddled drugs and firearms across the north of England".

Hall was named as one of the group's major customers.

According to the NCA, courier Safdar Pervez regularly transported drugs to Hall in County Durham. The agency stated that Pervez made trips "to deliver kilos of diluted cocaine to 39-year-old Daryll Hall, one of [ringleader Carl] O'Flaherty's top customers".

What was Daryll Hall convicted of?

Hall was convicted following a three-week trial connected to the organised crime network. The NCA said the group bought high-purity cocaine before diluting it with chemicals and selling it further down the supply chain.

Investigators alleged Hall was one of the dealers receiving those drugs.

The agency said the cocaine would be "resold... to dealers one step down the supply chain, such as Hall".

He was ultimately sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Why did Daryll Hall leave the UK?

According to Dispatches, Hall left Britain before the trial began. Speaking in the documentary, Hall said: "I didn't attend court and went not guilty [via lawyers] in absence."

He also claimed he chose not to return because he maintained he had done nothing wrong.

"Now it's down to 33% [of serving your sentence], I'd have probably served two years in jail [...] I'm not bothered about going to jail, but I am for something I haven't done. So I went on holiday and didn't return," Hall added.

The documentary also raised questions about how Hall was able to leave the country before trial, reporting that there were no bail restrictions preventing him from travelling abroad.

Where is Daryll Hall now?

Dispatches appeared to locate Hall living overseas after he fled the UK. Unlike some fugitives who attempt to conceal their identities, Hall appears to use social media openly under his own name and described himself as a "prisoner in his own home" now. He also spoke about the personal impact of remaining abroad, saying he misses his family.

The documentary shows him speaking candidly about his life outside Britain and his decision not to return to face his prison sentence, before he stopped responding.

Is Daryll Hall still wanted in the UK?

Yes. Hall was sentenced to 15 years in prison after absconding before trial, and the National Crime Agency has confirmed efforts to locate him are continuing.

As things stand, he remains wanted by UK authorities and would face arrest if he returned to the country.

The Crown Prosecution Service, in response to the documentary, said it worked to ensure Hall was held accountable, even in his absence.
