As you may well be aware, the festive period is one of the busiest times of the year for the Royal Family. Not only do they have a host of annual traditions, they also gather in Sandringham for a special Christmas Day church service.

For the past few years, Princess Catherine (who you may well know as Kate Middleton) has taken things up a notch with a heart-warming annual carol concert at Westminster Abbey.

Despite taking place on 6 December, the event was broadcast last night on ITV1 and given the title Royal Carols: Together At Christmas — allowing the UK public to experience a gorgeous festive event featuring performances by the abbey's choir as well as Paloma Faith, Olivia Dean and more.

Despite the wonderful performances, the real star of the show turned out to be none other than Princess Charlotte, whose playful antics captured the hearts of the nation.

Specifically, she could be seen laughing and exchanging looks with her siblings while singing 'O Come All Ye Faithful', before dutifully joining in with the lyrics and helping her little brother Prince Louis to hold his candle.

Another indisputable highlight was Princess Catherine's heartfelt speech, which kicked of the programme. The voiceover was recorded in advance and broadcast at the beginning of the programme, providing an opportunity for the royal to reflect on the meaning of Christmas.

“Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year. It is a time for presents, tinsel and mince pies, but it's also a time to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all," she said.

"It is when we stop and take ourselves away from the pressures of daily life that we find the space to live our lives with an open heart, with love, kindness and forgiveness, so much of what the Christmas spirit is all about.”

"The Christmas story encourages us to consider the experiences and feelings of others.

“It also reflects our own vulnerabilities and reminds us of the importance of giving and receiving empathy, as well as just how much we need each other in spite of our differences.”

Now that's a message to remember!
