Hurrah for happy royal news: Princess Beatrice and her husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi have just welcomed their first child together – a baby girl. And many are now wondering what her name, and title, might be.
Yep, despite the fact that her younger sister Princess Eugenie's son, August, does not have a royal title, Beatrice's daughter does. However, it's nothing to do with the Queen or the British Royal Family, but rather all to do with Edo's Italian lineage.
Confused? Stick with me... we're about to do a bit of a deep dive! Essentially, royal titles pass down through the male line, so because Eugenie's husband, Jack Brooksbank, doesn't have one, neither does their son.
However, Beatrice's husband, Edo, is actually an Italian count (as well as keeping busy as a multi-millionaire property tycoon), meaning that their new baby is a nobile donna (Italian for 'noble woman'). If their baby had been a boy, he would have been styled as a count like his father.
After their wedding, Beatrice herself also inherited a new title and is now an Italian countess, as well as a British princess. It's alright for some, eh?
Edo’s father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, spoke with the Daily Mail about their family’s lineage, saying, "Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation. He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna."
Everyone's clicking on...
He also added that Beatrice and Edo are "very suited to each other" and that "I’ve never seen him so happy," which of course is beyond adorable.
Princess Beatrice and Edo's pregnancy news was initially shared via a statement on the official Royal Family social media channels. In full, it read: "👶 Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year. The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news."
Beatrice and Edo's little one is the Queen's twelfth great-grandchild (with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's baby girl, Lilibet Diana coming in as the eleventh). Their daughter is Beatrice's first child and Edo's second, as he already has a little boy named Christopher (nicknamed 'Wolfie') who was born in 2016.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
