Train travel is often the most efficient and flexible way to get around, but if the price of tickets often puts you off, transport between two of the UK's most visited cities is about to get a lot easier.
A new low-fare rail route linking London and Edinburgh has been announced, and it's set to get travellers between the capital cities for under £25.
FirstGroup has confirmed that it will run five new electric trains which can travel at 125mph and will take around four hours to complete the journey. (Trainline reports that the current average time is around five hours, 30 minutes and some return fares can reach over £200).
In its announcement, the transport company said that customers can expect average fares of less than £25, along with on-board catering and free wi-fi. The electric-powered trains will also be quieter with lower emissions and will offer just one standard class of service.
According to the group, two-thirds of journeys between the two cities are made by air. It hopes to encourage more people to take the train when the route launches, although there's a little while to wait - these trains are set to start operating in autumn 2021. Plenty of time to plan a mini break in the meantime, then.
