As if travelling to America wasn't painful enough - sorry but those queues though! - the US has introduced more security checks at airports that could make the process take even longer.

If you've got a holiday booked to the US in the coming months, you may want to clue yourself up to the what to expect before you fly.

Lisa Farbstein, a spokeswoman for the US Transportation Security Administration told The Independent: "The security measures affect all individuals, international passengers and US citizens, travelling to the United States from a last point of departure international location.

“These new measures will impact all flights from airports that serve as last points of departure locations to the United States.”

The new measures aren't completely clear yet, although it is understood that airports will be asked to increase surveillance of US-bound planes, complete heightened screenings of personal electronic devices as well as conducting personal security interviews.

These will likely take place before departure, although how they will be conducted - in person or by form - and what they will include has not yet been determined.

Everyone's clicking on...

Whatever the measures, it's probably wise to allow more time before your flight, if travelling to America, at the airport than you normally would.
